ATLANTA, GA — A man from Mexico will spend nearly six years in prison for buying more than 150 firearms in Georgia to traffic them into Mexico.
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, 47-year-old Edson Aregullin was sentenced to 71 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
The U.S. Attorney General for the Northern District of Georgia says Aregullin received funds from buyers in Mexico, then facilitated the transport of those guns across the border.
Officials say the guns were used to carry out violent crimes, including one that killed eight people.
The weapons ranged from pistols to AR style guns.
Aregullin, is a Mexican national who previously lived in Atlanta. On November 19, 2024, he pled guilty to Conspiracy to Traffic in Firearms, three counts of Trafficking in Firearms, and three counts of False Statements to a Federal Firearms Licensee.
“Illegal firearms trafficking wreaks havoc in communities within and outside our district,” said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. “We are proud to stand alongside our federal law enforcement partners in helping to stem the unlawful flow of firearms to criminals.”
